THE OLD GHOST ROAD
Take on the challenge of this epic mission of climbing up a historic pack track through the rugged west coast forest onto the mountain tops, traversing the sub-alpine ridge before descending through boulder fields and a river gorge out towards the coast.
This advanced (to expert grade) trail requires riders to be fit with technical skills to keep on track through some of the narrow traverses with vertical drop-offs. This technical trail is remote and wild. Sections are exposed with back-country huts for overnighting.

The Old Ghost Road is an 'A to B' trail between Lyell and the Seddonville road-end on the West Coast. The trail can be ridden in 2-4 days and is recommended for travel in a northerly direction which allows for a gradual ascent on the old dray track.
The trail is suitable for advanced riders with some small parts being expert trail. While the surface is generally good, the trail is narrow singletrack with a few rough patches along the way. The trail is challenging, with some sub-alpine descent portions being particularly demanding and may require walking.
There are huts and campsites scattered along the trail, some of these need to be pre-booked and paid for prior to commencing the trip. All visitors should check the weather forecast and official website/Facebook pages prior to travelling and have suitable riding gear for this advanced/expert trail.
